My 9 year old listened to all of this -- in the last 4 days. He loved it! Believe it or not, he has already started listening again.
I might add, we are still reading through Volume 2. ;)

:iagree:
This is not a paid advertisement, just the truth - For the last 3 years, SOTW on CD is our best, most used, most learned from homeschool purchase.
At the beginning of this academic year, I wanted to "do things by the book" and read each chapter aloud, questions, narrate, map work and an activity from the AG. My daughter stole the CDs from the school room and started listening away. I got a little peeved that dd wasn't following my plans, and then my dh started laughing reminding me that the whole idea is to encourage and love for learning. :)
My 8yo son loves all the SOTW CDs.
He will replay them over and over.
When he gets a new audio book and recognizes Jim Weiss' voice he shouts with joy.
It's amazing how much he can absorb and retain.

Thanks for sharing my enthusiasm!
Yes, Nathan has listened to the first two volumes more than once too.
Yesterday, he came in all excited because he had learned that the cotton gin reduced slave labor need 100 fold -- or something like that. (my memory is not like his!)
The day before, he created his own board game about exploration and trade -- describing to me in detail the trade routes, etc. My husband played the game with him.
This was our first recording with Jim Weiss as well. Nathan says he likes them equally.

Hmmm...I am considering using SOTW next year, but now I'm concerned. Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin increased slave labor. Is that what you meant to say or does the book truly assert that it was reduced with the invention of the cotton gin?

Yes, he said increased. It's at the end of Chapter 27. Knowing me, Nathan had it right, and I wasn't really listening. :glare:
