Literary Analysis by Stobaugh?

Has anyone here used James Stobaugh's Literary Analysis? I'm looking for something for my 13 dd next fall. She will be starting world history and I'm not sure whether to try to use the books she'll already be reading to analyze, or try to find a separate literature course?

because it was being offered locally as a high school co-op class, but it is dry, dry, dry. and because it was being used in a class that was being run like a school, I was considered about my average reading speed daughter getting completed overwhelmed and burned out. So I decided against it. I think there are other things that aren't as dry, but just as effective,
