and we still aren't finished. We are in chapter 28 of book 8 of The History of US and no we didn't start at book 1. I don't want to carry it out to a third year. But I feel so guilty not making it through American history. I have a 5th and 7th grader, who just basically read the book and answer questions.
Any advice?

Some thoughts (not in order!)--

Stop wherever you end up in May, and do a year of 20th Century history sometime in your rotation. You will get American history in the context of the world, which is a great way to do it! Have you done any modern history yet? What sort of rotation are you using?
One thing to keep in mind is that the children do not need to go into much depth in the beginning, because they will encounter every part of history again. Yours are in the logic stage, right? They should encounter Am Hist in context in high school. Until then, I'd go back and restart your rotation, unless you are doing something atypical.
