My son tested on January 24th. I really didn't expect them until Monday, so I was pleasantly surprised to see them in the mailbox this afternoon.

I hope yours came today too!

What to make of them...that I don't know :)

Duke TIP should have an interpretation guide of some kind, with the norms for each grade level. If you didn't get it yet I could probably find one (I know ours comes later, but I could probably find an old one - they don't change much from year to year!)

I've just been mulling over what to think of it. I've always thought that ds was not gifted, just a bright kid in a good environment with a great attitude. I think the scores bear that out. I think his scores were good (especially for a young 5th grader) but he certainly is no where near the ceiling of the test. Of course I would have had fun seeing some big scores!

His subtest scores ranged from 14- 19. I think it was a good experience and we'll do it again next year. I think he's a bright kid who is being challenged at home. I don't think I need to break a sweat worrying about accomodating his giftedness, though:tongue_smilie:

We're doing well. We'll just keep chugging along. I'll file this away for days that I feel I am failing him and that he is falling behing his ps peers. :)

Thanks for offering to help.

Can someone please explain what this is and why it is beneficial? Thanks!

The EXPLORE is a test published by the same folks who do the ACT. It's intended for 8th graders, but is used by several of the academic talent search organizations as an "out of level" test for 4th and 5th graders. Having the higher ceiling allows bright/gifted kids to see what they can do.

Here's a link to the publisher's website with a description: http://www.act.org/explore/

It's offered twice each year, in January and February. In theory, the results arrive within 4 - 6 weeks, but some of us whose kids took it in January are at almost 8 weeks . . . and still waiting.

Beth -- Nope. Nothing today. I've decided to wait until Friday morning to call, since Saturday will make 8 weeks.

I'll keep you posted . . .

Okay, one day before the deadline I set for myself before I was going to call and ask what was going on, the test results arrived.

And it was actually a pleasant surprise. My son did better than I anticipated he would.

When my daughter took the test a few years ago, we registered her through a different talent search. And, as I recall, we got more or less just the report. I'm finding the booklet that Duke sent very interesting. It makes the results much more meaningful.

Anyway, they're here. They're pretty good. Now I can stop thinking about it.

Glad it was worth the wait!! CTD sends a booklet too, but it comes in April, after the results. I can see pros and cons to both ways, but overall I'm just not patient enough to go eight weeks!!
