Which one would you prefer for an age range of 8-11 who have never had any typing instruction before?

I definitely prefer TI for Kids for that age. My dd has tried both--when she was 7-8, I had her start TI Deluxe. She liked it, but didn't get very far, because the exercises are aimed at an adult's stamina. It got frustrating after a while.

This year, I purchased TI for Kids. DD has already gone through it once and had a blast. She is going through it again with a higher WPM goal. The games are more fun and the typing tests are better-suited for a child.

Everyone on this board raves about Typing Instructor Deluxe. I bought Typing Instructor for Kids about 3 years ago, and my dc won't touch it!! I have also heard really good things about Jumpstart typing, both here and from IRL friends. HTH

Thank you for your replies. Right now I'm leaning more towards the Kids version. They all are excited to learn to type and this one looks more "kiddy" to me.

I'll check out Jump Start as well, though. I hadn't seen that. :001_smile:

I'm reading this with interest - except my kids are a little older and have already gone through Dance Mat Typing (loved it!)...

So for 10-11yo kids who already know where to put their fingers but need practice actually typing to gain speed, which would be better, Deluxe or for Kids?

----------

ETA - to the OP - for kids who have never had typing instruction before, I'd highly recommend Dance Mat Typing (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/) - it's fun, it works, and it's free! Wish I could find something this good and free for the next level!

This is a good choice...for $1 more at CBD, you can get BOTH CD ROMs. Weird!

My dd had done Dance Mat Typing before Typing Instructor for Kids. I think Dance Mat is fabulous, but TI for Kids has a lot more practice. I'd still move on to TI for Kids because you can set the goal for whatever WPM is appropriate. There are different levels of difficulty, so it will work for them all. It's really much more fun than TI Deluxe.

I have been debating between TI Deluxe and TI for Kids; I just placed my order!
