My two high school girls are finishing the two volumes of Bennett's America: Last Great Hope earlier than I had planned. (A good thing that they are interested and doing it fast because it is good.)

I think I would like to supplement the remainder of the year with some documentaries. What are the titles of some good American History documentaires???

The only ones I can think of right now are Ken Burn's Civil War and Ken Burn's WWII.

Please give me some suggestions!
Thanks!
Pam

Not a doc, but we are watching Gettysburg (parts 1 & 2) and the North & South series (part 1) from Netflix this weekend.

We just watched the PBS series on Ben Franklin (http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Benjamin_Franklin/60028865?trkid=188469) from Netflix. Excellent.

We've had good luck w/ the History Channel series on the Founding Fathers also.

Netflix has more than you would ever need.

We haven't watched all of it yet, but the History Channel's War of 1812 is good. It's on 2 dvds.

There are also the Hippocampus video mini-lessons on US History. They are very well done, and free..

PBS has placed a number of documentaries in their American Experience series online. (Click here (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/onlineFilms/).) Teacher's guides are also available for some if not all.

The Revolution produced by the History Channel is a great overview of the American Revolution. Desperate Crossing also by History Channel is great for the Puritans / Plymouth Rock.

Anything produced by Ken Burns and PBS American Experience is worth watching imho.

:iagree::iagree:
My kids enjoyed The American Revolution (http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_History_Channel_Presents_The_Revolution/70057605?trkid=222336&lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=755379462_1_0) immensely. It wasn't cheesy war re-enactments. The costumes and acting -- and script -- were great!

although it has been many years since we watched it.

Our all-time favorites are:

Ken Burns' Lewis & Clark
and
PBS' John Adams (based on McCullough's book).
