Hi! I've been reading the boards for a while and have enjoyed it! :001_smile:

I recently purchased IEW American History Theme Based Lessons to use next year along with TWSS, which I am now working through. I did not purchase the teacher's manual with the theme based lesson. Is the teacher's manual necessary?

If you don't use it, how do you guide your student in completing the assignment? I looked over lesson one and it gives the student the assignment but gives no time frame in completing it.

I would love some ideas on how to use the theme based lessons. Thanks!

The TM isn't necessary but has lots of helpful ideas. I teach a theme based unit in a co-op setting and we do a part of a lesson together every week. The kids have to do another writing assingment to turn in by the next class. It just depends on how much time you want to spend on writing.

Thanks! I think I am going to go ahead and purchase the teacher's manual. I was pleasantly surprised to find some "extras" in the student's book like vocabulary. It looks like it will be a good book. We are going through SWI B right now.

The TM helps because it gives you an idea of what the lesson is looking for. I've not watched the DVDs so maybe that would help, but it helps to have it so I can look and get an idea of how to direct the learning. It also has examples in it.

I already purchased the student book, but now I wish I had purchased the teacher's manual. I purchased it from rainbow resource and I noticed that rainbow resource and IEW don't advertise the teacher's manual separately. Can it be purchased alone?
