For a child that can't seem to keep information in his brain?
He knows his math facts but it is the details that he forgets. He will look at a problem that he could do last week and claim that he has never seen anything like this in his life.
He is currently using K-12 math and he completely bombed the semester exam. I have also been using some MUS techniques with him but I need a more typical sequence so that he is ready for pre-algebra in 7 th grade. He is currently in 5th grade but just finishing up 4th grade K-12 math.
I need something that is not going to make me spend hours teaching him everyday. My kids have always used MUS so my day is not set up to spend 90 min a day walking one child through math problems. I can spend about 20 a day on math with this child.

Have you taken a look at Christian Light Education? My ds is the type to need lots of review in math or he forgets how to do things. We just switched to CLE math and we really like it.

We have had this problem since kindergarten, and I think I am finally tackling it head on and making progress. I would say that what has turned things around this year is me keeping tabs on his math more and making sure he is doing review work.
Aleks online math is providing him with just the right amount of review. We have been pleased with how it is working. Since he started using it he has gone from taking an hour (or more) to complete his Teaching Texts lessons to being finished in 15-20 minutes (with high marks and no help from me--also no complaining)! He just has more confidence and doesn't panic about what to do--maybe because he knows what to do now and knows he can do it well. Here is the link to the free trial, in case you think it would be worth investigating. It has been a good fit for us.

I have him do it in addition to his regular math lesson (Teaching Textbooks). We are currently using Aleks free one month trial. You can have the trial extended to 2 months if you give them e mail addresses of two friends. My friends didn't mind, so we have 2 months free. I got some complaining about extra math at first, but not anymore. He knows that I'm assigning it to help him and now he feels so much better about math. When we started I explained that I know how math can be a struggle and I want to help him to put those struggles behind him.
In addition to the online review I have gone through his text and helped him create a notebook with a quick synopsis for each lesson. We go through the notebook and review the concepts and add to it when we have a finished a chapter. I try to make it short and sweet, but with all the main ideas. I let him know what he needs to put on the page, he fills it out because I'm hoping the writing will help him remember. Sometimes I have him solve a problem or 2 on the dry erase board if I know he's had trouble with a certain concept.
Hope this helps.
