God's Design Science ~ user or reviewer opinions, please? nt

I am planning on using it for this coming fall. I love the way it looks and I'm really excited about it. However, I haven't actually bought it or used it yet...hopefully someone else will be able to comment further!! :D

I'm using the Biology books this year. The one on animals is great. My kids learned a lot, and science gets done. We spent a little too much time on animals, though, and now I feel like I'm rushing through anatomy so we can squeeze in the study on plants!

I don't like the anatomy one quite as much so far, but I've got lots of hands-on stuff I'm using for it (plastic skeletons, coloring books, the My Body book, and an anatomy board game that I can't locate right now). I've even bought a set of organs that the kids can put on themselves to learn where the vital organs belong.

Some say the text is dry, but I basically have the kids sit at the table while I skim the text, paraphrase it for them, and write notes and diagrams on the white board. Works well when we get to it.

We did the three Earth Science books, and enjoyed it. The only reason why we didn't continue to use it was because dd was tired of the lack of color, which seems to not be an issue anymore.

I will say they aren't afraid to use big terms, so be ready to do some vocab.

Did you know that AIG will update your b/w books for the new ones for only $5.00 per book? You just need to agree not to sell your old books. I did this with a few of them, plus I ordered the new teacher materials (which haven't come in yet). My ds is VERY excited about these. Of course, he adores studies about animals, plus he loves the fact that he doesn't have to be on guard for evolution entries!

Do you know if that applies if you didn't buy it directly from them? I bought through B&N, RR and one used.

I can't wait to hear about the teaching material. I am planning on starting them again with my 9yo next year.

We've used the human body/animals/plants set this year and it has worked very well; enough info to learn, but not to overwhelm. Because my guys were younger, there were some lessons I skipped or greatly condensed, but I am looking forward to having it there when they are a bit older. It was very easy to adapt, and very easy for me to prep. I would not use it as a stand alone source of info, it needs to be fleshed out with other "picture" or reference books. We used Ranger Rick magazines, DK Eyewitness books, Kingfisher Animal Ecyclopedia/Human Body book, etc. We have the whole series and are looking forward to using them all. I am thrilled to have something solid for science that I don't have to keep editing the evolution out of!

We use the series, and are really happy with it. ( and we are agnostic- though 1 of our dc, is a Christian)

Currently using Earth book and Human Body book ( 2 lessons a week from each book).

We have been successfully using this for several years. It's a solid program that's easy to use; science actually gets done around here! I have found it helpful to have some pictures books to compliment the life and earth books, but havaen't found it necessary to do so with the chemistry and physics books.

If you have the older black and white version, the DK E-guide in the corresponding subject works really great for pictures. There is an E-guide for plants, human body....
