We are not bilingual - just thought this would be a good place to ask.
My dd is 11yo. I want to start some foreign language with her. Her dad speaks French fluently (he's Canadian) but he lives far away from us.

Where would be a good place to start?
I need something she can do as independantly as possible.
Workbooks with audio or DVD is what I have in mind.
She could work on it when I put the baby down for his nap (which requires me to stay in bed with him if he's gonna get any kind of sleep at all).

Any recommendations you have for what to do, how to do it, or programs to use would be appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Well, I don't know if there are any programs that speak Canadian French (aka Quebecois), but we like Rosetta Stone. I'm guessing that RS French would be Parisian French. Someone just posted a free course that may be excellent, though, at this link http://www.fsi-language-courses.com/ There is one in French and it's free (old course now in public domain.) You may wish to read the thread on this, as Cleo, who lives in Quebec, said that the text is good, but one of the recommended other books is not.
