 I thought it was an okay movie until after they caught him, then YIKES!- it really got "weird". I hadn't read ANY reviews, just saw that Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman were in it, thought the story sounded interesting, so we rented it.
I was just  at the ending.

Jenn - I saw the movie and read the book. I actually "liked" the book - it was definitely creepy, but I like the way it was written. The movie was actually fairly faithful to the book - I can't imagine watching the movie without reading the book though.:eek:, for sure.

Really, I thought the movie was incredibly well-done. Even when I kind of, sort of, wanted to stop watching, I couldn't. I wanted to know what happened next, and the characters were just fantastic! They did a great job on the whole presentation. (Except for the ending scene on the stage - that bit seemed to jump the shark a bit, imho, and it lost me, there.) It was disturbing, to say the least, yet DH and I stayed up well into the night talking about all the things it brought to mind. If you rate your date nights on the basis of how many pots of coffee and tangential discussions you have, then I guess you could even say it was a decent date-night movie. LOL!
But then I had to wash it down with a Jack Black comedy. A little humor chaser, you know. ;)
Haven't read the book. Didn't know it was a book!

Loved the book but hated the movie. I was doubly disappointed because I love the director, Tom Tykwer's other movies. It was just a mess but I had a hard time seeing how they could make that bk into a movie in the first place.

There were points in the direction and cinematography that were really fascinating. I'd love it if you'd share what else he's done. :)
Thanks!
