My son (he will be 11) and I will be taking the plunge into Latin in the fall. I am considering either LC1 or Lively Latin. Any opinions for us?

Blessings,

Lisa

I wouldn't start LC1 with an 11yo, personally. I'd go with Lively Latin (which I haven't used) or Latin Prep (which I have used and love). I like LC, but it's very basic, fairly dry, and doles out information so slowly that I think it would be very frustrating for an 11yo.

My 10 y.o. ds doesn't like it -- but I do! I think we are moving through it too slowly (Latin falls off our to-do list all too often), and thus he loses momentum. But he is learning Latin. I am going to re-evaluate this summer and try to re-invigorate our program :001_huh:

You can view sample pages online, perhaps you already have...

I tried LC 1 with my 10 year old who had done about 1/2 of Prima Latina a few years ago. We both hated it, and felt it was slow and dry.

Lively Latin was overkill. For me, it was the TOG of Latin, and I didn't want to sift through stuff I knew we weren't going to use.

I downloaded a chapter of Latin Prep, and it was a perfect match! DS and I attacked it vigorously last week, and we're anxiously waiting for the books to arrive in the mail.

Definitely take a look at it before you narrow it down!

Thank you for the feedback so far. I definitely don't want anything that would be considered the TOG of Latin. As much as I would love to think I could tackle something of the sort, I know it would never work for us. I am off to take a look at LP. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Lisa
