One of my sons is currently working through Lial's Intermediate Algebra, 8th edition (hc) which I bought used online. At the same time, I searched for the matching solution manual. However, when I received it (from a different seller), I discovered that it does not match up with the textbook, even thought the title is "Student's Solutions Manual, Intermediate Algebra, 8th edition." Both the chapters in the TOC and the order of the problems differs from the textbook. How do I find out the right ISBN so that I can match a solution manual (not needed often, but enough to be useful) to our text?

Which text do you have? The paperback text with 'the bridge' on the cover or the hardback?

I have the hc text but the pb solutions manual. That one has the picture of the bridge.

Go to www.lialalgebra.com
This site was created for the 8th edition hardback series.
If this is your text then the solution manual is 0-321-06200-0.
If this is NOT your text then give me the isbn of the text and the date it was published and I'll help you hunt some more!
It sounds like the text you have is the 8th edition from her Addison Wesley series--where the 'bridge' one is from the Pearson/Addision Wesley series.
... Clear as mud right?!
The paperback series has a slightly different layout. Concepts and most of the teaching lessons are the same. There are practice problems in the margins to work out as the lesson progresses (after each example). It also goes into a tad more detail (moves a tiny bit slower). Both series are good.

Thanks, Jann--Yes, that's our text--the green hc. I looked up the ISBN for the solutions manual on Addall.com to see if there are any used copies around. Just to be sure, though: should the solutions manual be a hc as well, or a pb? because the selections that came up on Addall included pb's. Thanks for your help!

Glad I could help.
at www.lialalgebra.com if you click on the text you are using then click on the chapter--THEN click on the 'interact math' you will get a nice quiz feature that has built in helps. Hopefully it will work for you!
