Hi,
Any suggestions for me? Here's my situation...
My 6th grade daughter really hates math, although she does understand it and does well. We used Math U See until 4th grade (she says she loved it, but it didn't have much review work), then switched to Saxon. I've been reading that Saxon integrates geometry throughout instead of a separate course. She struggles with geometry, so I'm not sure that will be our best option. I'm considering going back to Math U See, maybe Bob Jones University (I'm interested in their science as well), or using Saxon DIVE. Any thoughts from those who've "been there?" I'd like to stick with one program from 7-12th. Any other curriculums you would suggest looking at?
Thanks!
Julie

Have you looked at Teaching Textbooks? They come with cdroms that go right along with the program, showing how to work out each problem. We've used Saxon Dive in the past and it was not nearly as explanatory as TT.

If MUS worked for you go back to what worked, print out more review sheets from the website if you need to or play math games that reinforce the concepts she needs to practice. No math program is perfect. The best you can do if find one that works well and modify to meet your student. MUS will see you through the high School years.

My dd did okay with math but really hated it. We switched to Lial's Basic College Math and she likes it just fine. I like that it covered enough so that I didn't need to worry about any gaps from switching. She likes the color. I love that it has a mastery approach. It also includes review after each chapter in prep for the chapter test. Then there is a cumulative review for chapters 1-current which we also do. It basically goes from about 6th gradet thru pre-algebra.
Now I'm not sure what we will use for Algebra. Lials does have an Algebra book that I'm considering...but I'm also considering Jacobs Algebra, Foresters or maybe even Teaching Textbooks. We will probably need to do a separate Geometry course from one of these sources.

I second Teaching Textbooks. Excellent program for 5th & 6th grades, IMHO. :)

We always supplement MUS. Two programs that lend themselves well to that are:
- Singapore
- Keys To... series of workbooks
This year, doing MUS Pre-Algebra, we're using both; Singapore for seeing math from a different point of view, and the Keys To Decimals and Keys to Percents for additional review.
Works great here! Warmly, Lori D.

We used Saxon through *most* of 7/6 then switched to Chalkdust for Pre-Algebra. We completed that last year, and ds is currently doing Algebra I with them. No plans to switch and they go all the way through Calculus. This is a DVD-based program which comes with teacher support if you buy new. Awesome program.

Thanks for the suggestions for math curriculum. I hadn't heard of Teaching Textbook or Chalkdust, so I'll research those. I won't rule out Math U See just yet either. Thanks for your ideas!!!!!!!!
