Any opinions here? We are currently working through R&S5 and my son is doing fine overall but it takes a fair amount of time to complete the lessons and I am trying to streamline a bit for next year. I have looked at AG a bit and like the approach it seems to take. In the long run, is it as thorough as R&S? Will I be sorry if I switch to AG?

Looking forward to your input!

Blessings,

Lisa

Do you do the written and the class practice in R&S? We don't do the class practice unless we need extra work. Maybe that would cut down on the time. I really like how thorough R&S is, although it is certainly not something my kids get excited about. :-)

We do most of it orally. I think the problem we are having as well, that it seems that AG combats, is that it is presented sequentially. I think that would make a lot more sense to my son. Often times, it's as if he gets confused because of what he calls the extra words in the sentence. I explain to him that they are articles, adverbs, etc., and that he will learn about them in future lessons. He does get it in the end but it takes a lot of review and reinforcement on my part. I am concerned about AG being less thorough, however. I am hoping someone will chime in with their thoughts about this.

Umm, I can't compare (I don't even know what AG is). However, I do know that my children generally took a fair amount of time in R & S through book 5 (I think). But, after that their time spent was almost cut in 1/2. Not that it requires less, just that it was much easier for them.
