I'd like to start following WTM suggestions for studying science. There are so many options available for Chemistry and I don't know which to choose. I'm looking for suggestions on what you've used and why you'd recommend it.

The two I really like are Real science 4 Kids and Adventures with Atoms and molecules. I use AAM with my boys and find it easy to use with good explanations of the experiments. I have never used Real science but have reviewed it and would use it if I had to switch.
Both programs cover real chemistry topics like density and explain to kids in a way they can understand. (esp Real science). They give the kids exposure to these terms that they will encounter later on in chemistry.

I used Noeo Chem 1 for a co-op I taught to grades 3-5. We had a great year. The kids enjoyed the program and I was pleasantly surprised at the coverage of topics. My dd, now 5th gr, has retained so much from that year (going on 2 1/2 years ago.)

I love them both, Adventures is easier just to pick up and do without covering background info. Real Science for Kids is more sequentially thought out and has experiments to back up the text. We just made our own "litmus" paper and tested substances to see if they were an acid or a base. I love the language connection book as well. It links the latin and greek roots of words to the lessons.

R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey just came out with a Chemistry program. We are using the LIfe now and like it. I plan on getting chemistry next year.

We love R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey, and have been using the "Try before you buy" portion of their chemistry program. I will be buying it in the next couple of days. Check it out! They have about 4 weeks worth of assignments posted...

I was just going to suggest this as well, especially if you want a full year program laid out for you and want lots of hands on.

I wish R.E.A.L. would have been ready a bit earlier, because we loved Life and Earth, but since it wasn't we went with easyclassical.com.
It is going okay. It usually gets done, and the boys like that it has so many experiments available. It is based very much on the recomendations in TWTM, what you are really paying for is the time someone spent making a schedule. It also has narration questions, which I like. And I think they added quizes if that matters.
The chem. is secular- but most of the other sciences use the Apologia books, so I don't think we would have picked them.

My 3rd grader has used Adventures with Atoms and Molecules this year. She's enjoyed doing lots of experiments. However, in the future, I would like something to go with this, to more explicitly teach some concepts. I'm unsure whether I would go with Noeo or R.E.A.L.
