My ds loves history, and we have just finished TOG Y1. I was going to start TOG Y2 but I really want to wait a couple of months (we homeschool year around). Does anyone have suggestions on what to do in the interim? I would prefer to stay away from the modern for now, but any era will do.

TIA

Maybe a couple of months of geography? Pick three or four countries and do a few maps, learn their cities and geographical features, cook some foods, read a book written either about or in that country--

For example,
Switzerland
Learn the nomenclature of mountain regions
Read Apple and the Arrow or Heidi
Make Cheese Fondue
Study sheep and goats
Raise $ by doing chores or service for others and send it to Heifer International and purchase a goat or a sheep
Investigate plant life of the alpine region
Learn to yodel
Map of Switzerland

A few months off from history can be really fun!

We already are doing an FIAR co-oop that is going around the world, but it maybe fun to get a unit study going of some sort. Thanks for the idea!

Congrats on finishing TOG 1!! These are some ideas I came up with given the ages of your kids - how about reading biographies together (missionaries? other historical figures you're interested in? Childhood of Famous Americans series?) Or you could read through some of the SL K-2 book selections. Finally, there are some great lapbook online stores that sell units for different times in history (as well as many other topics) - you could complete a lapbook together.
