Dd and her friend, both ten, have decided to throw a "Super '70's Party" next month. They got the idea from an American Girl Magazine article about same.

I think we'll do shrinky dinks as a craft, but I need a source for the shrinkable, bakeable plastic sheets--- does Michael's have them?

'70's snack ideas: so far I have Jiffy Pop and Pop Rocks.....I've got to think some more!

So, let's hear your favorite '70's foods, crafts, music, etc.

Fun! How about decorating jars with paint pens and filling them with that Tang tea. I remember doing this in the late 70's for all of my friends for Christmas. We also used paint pens to decorate those plastic containers from The Container Store. Contents included m&m earrings, Polo horse earrings, Bonnie Bell lip gloss, pet rocks, warm fuzzies...

Tang Tea
1 c. instant tea
1 c. Tang
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves

Mix. Store in airtight container in a dry place. To serve, place 2 heaping teaspoonfuls in a cup. Fill with hot water! OPTIONAL: Add red hot cinnamon candy.

Friendship bracelets and phone wire jewelry. String art. And whatever that thing was with craft sticks and yarn... cat's eye or something. Beaded safety pins (or was that the 80's?)

We were probably quite behind you US sophisticates in Scotland but the 70s there were prawn cocktails (so classy!), 'Twister', 'Buckaroo', 'The Dukes of Hazard', 'Crunchie' bars, Bjorn Borg, little clicky-clacky bits for your bike, space hoppers, parkas, mods, mothers wearing swim caps with rubber flowers and a dreadful education.

Shoe string potatoes (in a can!) and Pepsi were the staples in our house,:)
as was peanut butter on Ritz crackers.

We also made cakes in a 13 x 9 pan and poked holes every few inches with the handle of a wooden spoon and then poured pudding over the whole thing. Usually, the cake was yellow and the pudding was chocolate. You could get some "Goober Grape" at the store and make little sandwhiches. My friends and I always had cheese-in-a-can on crackers.

I know I've seen those sheets of shrinking plastic at a craft store recently.

Don't forget all of those dances that we used to do, in other words,
"Do the hustle..."

I never missed the "New Mickey Mouse Club." Lisa, the "pink" mouseketeer is a homeschooling mom, now. She came to our state's convention a few years ago. Small world...

Were those the years of flower power or was that in the 60's? I remember great big flowers on VW's and other places. Maybe you could make some great big flower placemats or table toppers.

Oh, and don't forget that mirror balls and strobe lights were popular at dances back then!

Does anybody remember a dance called the Jerk? I'm afraid if I tried it now I'd end up in physical therapy!

Blessings,
Lucinda
