I posted this on the K-8 board already, but haven't received any responses...maybe someone here can help???? We're using MFW-Adventures this year and plan to continue with their history cycle for the grammar years. Has anyone used this and then switched to Omnibus for Dialectic/Rhetoric? I have many small children and the fit with MFW right now is perfect but I don't want my kids to be too far behind to succeed in Omnibus in either 7th/8th.....also, right now we're following more of a Charlotte Mason approach than a strict Classical approach in terms of grammar study and writing. I don't want to overload myself as teacher when I have so many young ones still to tend to as well. Any thoughts on how to best prepare them? Anyone out there who has done this combination of curricula?

I'm sorry but I haven't used Omnibus or MFW, but I did use many of the VP elementary materials and strongly considered Omnibus for this year (we ultimately chose to go a different way). I would suggest that the best prep would be to have them read lots and lots. You could easily supplement MFW with some recommendations from the VP catalogue (as well as their own book basket list). VP recommends some very challenging books, esp. in upper ele years, and will get them used to the rigor required for Onmnibus. I would also encourage you to call VP and talk to Bruce Etter (former teacher at Veritas Academy and current teacher at their online school) about specific ways that you could get your kids ready for Omnibus. He was very helpful when I talked to him about Omnibus.
Personally, I think you are wise in your curriculum choice - you are choosing what works for you and the ages of the kids you have. I think that is so much more important than just picking a program for where it may (or may not) lead you many years from now. :001_smile:
Hopefully some moms with far more experience than I will chime in.
