So my plan is to do world geography and WTM science for 1st but to write my own curric and combine them so we look at the continents.
We would spend 2 months studying each continent - different countries on that continent, flags, religion, government, major geographical features, wonders of the world, habitats, animals, people, plants of that continent. Using various books that will cover those areas along the way and various handicrafts native to that area.
Ideally i would like to have DD write a book on each continent using copywork, colouring in pics, sticker flags, cutting from magazines, you get the idea. Then she will have a beautiful auto review, the book she wrote on Africa, Europe etc.
Does that sound like a comprehensive enough plan?
What should i aim for DC to walk away with at the end of that year?
I guess i don't want to go to deep and at the same time not deep enough.
Anything extra you would include?
Any great resources you know about and care to share?

We are doing a geography and cultures study combined with earth science, animals and plants. I'm saving human body for another time.
I like Galloping the Globe, and R&S 4th grade social studies. Childcraft's Countries and Cultures book is good.
I'll tell you more about my plan if you're interested.

In retrospect I really wish I went ahead and purchased the Complete Book of Animals. the One Small Square series is something you may want to check out, and we have used Usborne Living World Encyclopedia, but I didn't schedule it in.

This sounds fun! I did a short "around the world" study with my kids one summer. A fun resource we used (and they are inexpensive) are A Trip Around the World, Another Trip Around the World and A New Trip Around the World. They have all kinds of ideas for studying countries including coloring pages, puzzles, recipes, lists of books to read, etc. They are great for the elementary age. I found them at Rainbow Resource. Good luck!
