I have 3 kids that do memory. It is getting long, b/c we memorize poetry, Bible verses and my oldest is reviewing Latin as well. I would like to add more things to our memory time, but I don't want to add more time! Do you all memorize the same things, reciting together and the littles just add in what they can? Or, do you memorize some easier things, some harder things and do together? Or, do you do everyone separate? Any other ideas on memory with multiple kids of various ages?

Bumping this back up to try again. :) Maybe now that the boards are faster....

I only have two at home now, but I assign them different things. They each have their own papers with their memory on it and are supposed to work independently and recite them to me or their dad when they're ready.

I try to study with them and we often do this together at devotion time.

Not an ideal method, but better than nothing....

I have kids in 5th, 4th and 1st grades, and they have some memory work they share and some they do not. I put all of it in a weekly playlist on my MP3 player, so they can listen to it at breakfast time. Some things I have prerecorded, like their geography songs, so I just put that week's track on the list, but for personally selected verses, poems, or passages (for example, we are memorizing the Apostle's Creed right now), I will either tape myself reading it (which I hate because I hate listening to myself on a recording) or I tape the child reading it then add the recorded track to the week's playlist.

Before breakfast near the end of the week (or other designated date to have a passage memorized), I ask if anyone would like to recite any of the memory work before listening the playlist. I will also have them recite for dad when he comes home or have them call grandparents to recite on the phone.

Doing recitations and memory work while prepping, eating or cleaning up from a meal has been a great way to work through it without it felling like it is taking an insane amount of time.

We do ours all together. Monday - Thursday we spend 15 min. tops on VP history cards, IEW poetry, geography facts and Latin chants. I expect my dd7 to recite perfectly on Fridays, but dd4 has surprised me and she recites everything correctly (except some of the Latin chants).

I have a K and 2nd grader and we are mostly just working on math memory work and a few poems.

I start out our school day rolling or tossing a little felt ball back and forth to work on counting with my youngest and then tables with my older child. Later on during other units we will be doing months, phone number, weights and measurement, etc. We also do poetry between subjects and I add in hand movements to make the poems more memorable.

As far as latin, I go over the flashcards with my dd on days where we have no new words. Someone else also talked about playing Latin go-fish.

Hope this helps.:)

My kids are currently ages 13, 11, 6 and 2. They each have their own set of index cards with memory work on them for the week (Bible verses, poetry, etc.). I "remind" them each day to recite it aloud somewhere 5x. Whenever they think they are ready to recite it to me, they can bring me the card. Once they've mastered it, I put it into a file box, which I use to pull out the cards they've learned for weekly/monthly review. For Latin, my older two keep their vocabulary on cards in an index card binder, and they chant their vocab daily. My younger daughter does some Latin vocab with me aloud when we do Latin. For VP history, we listen to the song daily at the start of the year, then bump it down to weekly after they have learned it (which only takes a few weeks, usually).

Hope that makes sense!

We are doing Classical Conversations- Foundations so the majority of our memory work is already picked out for us. Some days they just view/listen to the power point CD with most of the memory work on it. Other times we play games like Jepardy or Baseball ... points based on correct recitation of memory work when prompted. Sometimes we just chant what we can remember while cleaning the kitchen. We also have some of it on audio so we listen in the car. It's always a toss up whether to work on the new material or review the past material.

Right now I'm doing this with my 11yo ds and 8yo ds but my 3yo dd tends to sing or chant along with us.

Oh I also put our Bible verses on a big wipe off poster in their bathroom. And I put a copy of the timeline work in both their and the main bathroom and inside one of the kitchen cabinets(my cheat sheet!... hmm need to do this with Bible also!).

They also do some memory work within their own programs. My 11yo ds is doing CW Aesop B so we review those terms weekly. My 8yo ds is doing FLL so that memory work is done just within those lessons.
