DS 14 (9th grade) just completed Level 1 of the new Rosetta Stone Spanish. Should he just start in on Level 2, or should we have him work on some more grammar? What? He leaves in a few weeks for 14 days in Chile (mission trip). Beyond that, what should he do to earn a full year of Spanish credit?

My only comment is that on the RS website at one time I read that finishing Level 1 of RS was equal to 2 years of high school foreign language credit.
What if he just started to read Spanish? I'm sure your library will have children's picture boooks and chapter books in Spanish.
Good luck, and congratulations for your boy!

I would work on grammar. RS is good for "immersion" ---kinda like what he'll get in Chile, but as an immersion program, it does not present grammar systematically. Practice Makes Perfect Spanish Verb Tenses is a good, sound workbook, available at any bookstore. I think you could give a full credit for RS 1 plus Spanish Verb Tenses through the simple tenses.

Thank you! I just ordered the Practice Makes Perfect books from Amazon and I'll have him pick up some other books at the library.
