We are studying the Moon and the Apollo missions and it came to my mind to watch the Apollo 13 movie with my kids. However, I haven't watched it in a long time and DH thinks it might be too scary for the boys.

We agreed (he and I) would come to the hive and see what ya'll thought!

Lay it on me! :D

Nevermind...I found the following review and it talks about the amount of profanity. Doesn't seem appropriate for my little guys even if they could handle the "scariness".

We were studying rockets. I noticed the profanity and was going to mention it to you. But you already found it. I was able to fast forward through much of it and see only the take-off scene I wanted.

I don't remember the profanity, but I remember the *intensity* of it. Even knowing the astronauts survived, it was intense!

Maybe you could show clips/key scenes?

s*xual inuenndos at a party near the beginning. When my sister saw it at 12 she didn't understand/get them, but I did at 14. Though my sister had already seen the movie with family, my mom wouldn't let her see it at again at school becuase she didn't want my sister's classmates to "enlighten" her.

I would personally find it a bit intense for kids that age. There is a young boy who fears for his dad, and I think that might make a young child have fears for his own parents.

Just an add on to the other posts, there is one shower and "skin" scene. We fast forward/skip it and explain what happened.
