This morning I woke up at 4:30 to find the dryer going. Since I am the only one up that early, I figure maybe oldest ds put the load in before he went to bed--probably around midnight. That's 4 1/2 hours running! The timer dial hadn't moved at all. It may have been held back by all the clothes hanging in front of it on the rod above. The dryer didn't feel warm when I stopped it, but the clothes were dry. I switched the laundry in the washer to the dryer and started it back up, but they aren't drying. The dryer is not producing any heat.
Now, I remember that we replaced some kind of heating element on this dryer once before. ("We" because I picked it up from the store and watched dh fiddle with it.) Dh says it's time to buy a new one. I'm not sure we couldn't replace the heating element again and fix it, but I don't know if it's worth it. The dryer is probably about 10-12 years old. Any thoughts?
If we do replace the dryer, does anyone have any recommendations? I've been searching a little this morning. It seems dryers may have some energy saving features, but they do not have energy ratings. I don't want to spend a whole lot. Dryers just don't excite me as much as the many other things I could think of to spend money on right now.
