I have an Amana glasstop stove, and I'm worried about one of the burners. For the last few days it has been acting a little weird. I thought at first that I didn't have the switch all the way to off, but it really is and has been for the last few days. Every time I pass the stove I put my hand over the burner and it is at least a little warm...sometimes it's hot enough for the "surface" light to come on like it does when I'm purposely cooking something.
Is there a way to disconnect the burner? I'm a little leery of leaving it like that.
Thanks in advance from the appliance impaired...

I don't know if you can disconnect the burner, but I would unplug the whole thing until you get a repairman out there. I have heard of fires starting from problems like you are describing.

Thanks, Soph--I just tried to pull out the stove to unplug it, and I can't. The counters are so close on either side that I can't get a good grip on the thing and the plug in is all the way down on the floor...
My boyfriend is coming over as soon as the roads clear to manhandle the thing for me. Hopefully he can just disconnect that burner and I can work okay with the other three for the time being.
I'm still a little creeped out by it, though I'll have plenty of warning from the dog who just a month ago didn't like the smell coming from the self-cleaning oven and barked his head off!
