This was my first year homeschooling. My dd is 5 and in K, my boy's are 4 and in PreK. We did ABEKA K4 Phonics instruction and MFW for Bible & science unit studies. I'm trying to plan next year in a way that I can do a lot of it together. She is 13 months older than my boy's. Here is what I'm thinking but am mostly concerned with the basics.

Bible, handwriting, science & history: HOD Little Hearts for His Glory. I would use the 1st grade handwriting suggestion for her and the K for my boy's. I'm wondering if I should just select the 1st grade choices for science & history? We all did MFW together this year. I wasn't sure if the HOD K science & history would the best choice or not.

I'm still trying to decide between ABEKA phonics/reading program or using Reading Made Easy and some Explode The Code workbooks. My dd and one of my twins are both reading beginning readers. My other twin is reading CVC words but sometimes struggles. I can tell he will be catching up soon though. I also have Phonics Pathways that I have been using since we finished the ABEKA K4.

I'm considering ABEKA math or SAXON. Don't think I can do the ABEKA together though. Would it be easier to combine SAXON? We have been doing our calendar, ordinal #'s & weather chart together. I have a special wall for that in our homeschooling area.

Any suggestions on what I should do? :001_smile:

Webster's Speller was designed for one room schools, it's perfect for doing together!

They can both start out with a bit of the syllabary. Then, as they each move along at their own pace with their own whiteboard through the tables, you can start each day with a bit of the syllabary for daily review together. They will be learning from watching each other, you'll just have to remind them to not burst out with the answer when it's not their turn. (With my large class of remedial students, when they work in small groups, they get so excited about knowing the answer, they can't help themselves and will often blurt out an answer when it's not their turn. We have to constantly remind them of this.)

How to in my signature below and more detailed instructions in this thread, make sure to watch the movie, it should make how to use it much clearer. It's focus on syllables is a bit different from how modern phonics is taught (although they do teach with syllables in some modern schools in France and Mexico.)
