I've been searching for quite some time to find an alternative to using sugar in my coffee. I've tried going cold turkey (no sugar) but couldn't do it. I've tried most sweetners (bad aftertaste) and Stevia (disgusting) but finally compromised to using raw cane sugar which I enjoy but probably isn't the best when you're dieting.

Well, a friend told me about Agave sweetner and it's actually really good. It's an amber-colored sweetner made from the Agave plant and it's all natural. I did a little research and it's suppose to be significantly lower on the glycemic index than either sugar or honey. It looks very similiar to honey but isn't quite as thick and you don't need to use as much because it is very sweet. I bought an organic Blue Agave at Trader Joe's.

Has anyone else used this product? It sounds really good because it's all natural but you always want to check products out. Just my luck there would be some study claiming it causes users to grow a 6th toe or something :D.

tried some agave nectar and I've found that it is an acquired taste and the different brands can taste differently as well.

Another sugar that I've tried is Xylitol. Of course, I feel like I have to use a ton of it to sweeten it to how I like it. I like Xylitol because it is supposed to be very good for your oral health as well as a low glycemic index.

I've tried agave nectar, it was yummy but I got nauseous after eating it.

Well...it is made from the same plant as Tequila so that might have been the problem! :D

LOL, I probably had too much at once. :o
I had some soaked walnuts, and I drizzled some agave nectar on top and mixed in some cinnamon- it was YUMMY!

And as I'm diabetic I think it's the best sweetner available to diabetics. I couldn't stand stevia in my coffee. It does have a laxative affect for me, if I have more than 3 cups of coffee :) So I keep it to one cup and I'm good. Coffee has to have sugar . . . ya'know?!

I love Agave Nectar. I am sensitive to sugar, but because of agave nectar's low glycemic level I can eat it without a problem. Enjoy it!!

We use it A LOT! :o:D Yummo! I get the raw agave which seems to be less sickly sweet. It is also cheaper. ;)

But we also prefer the raw, lighter colored version.

Two bits of info for consideration are: 1) Dr Mercola (in case your a follower of his) says that the agave industry is not being well monitored. He said that some trucks of agave were being brought into the country from Mexico, and that it turned out that sometimes the product being passed off as agave was nothing more than high fructose corn syrup. I recently tried to go back and reread his article on this, but I couldn't find it again.

2) One of dh's naturopathy textbooks said to be watching for some negative information to be soon released about agave. I've been watching, and haven't head any breaking news yet, but if you are so inclined, you might want to consider keeping up with agave news.

Until then, I will continue using it. I love that the raw, light colored version is so versatile, and neutral in taste.
