Have you looked at All About Spelling (http://www.allaboutspelling.com/wendyb) ? AAS is creating readers to go along with each level so it could function as both a spelling progrom and an ongoing reading program. I'm using AAS with my 6yo and it is very thorough without being overwhelming.

I much prefer FLL/WWE over queens language arts. FLL/WWE is very systematic and I have visible proof that his narrations are improving. There is enough review that he has plenty of opportunity to learn a concept. FLL/WWE combinations you have copywork 2x/week, narrations 2x/week but 3-4 days of grammar/language review.

Random is the word I would use to describe Queens. We enjoyed to copywork, poetry and picture selections but the layout of the program was horrible. For example, there might be weeks of nothing but copywork then no copywork for several more weeks. A topic would be introduced for a day then not reviewed or reinforced for several lessons.

It has been years since I've has a 6th grader. What is SWI?
