I know that all kids are different but what levels are you doing with what ages? I am thinking of using TOG next year and I am curious.
Thanks,

Well, my 6th grader uses a mix of UG and D level. 6th grade is somewhat on the edge of D, with some of the D being too difficult or too much, and the UG being too simple. So I mix it up according to my son's abilities.

It really helps to have the TOG year plan on hand before making any concrete level decisions. Next year, for 7th, I will purchase only D level books. The accountability and discussion questions will still be hit and miss with him though as some of them will still be a tad difficult.

My 8 yr old is doing LG, the 9 yr old UG the 11 yr old UG/D..he does most of the D reading but doesn't do much of the discussion part. A few things I have had him do the UG reading and work. But then UG kid does a bit of D reading as well..The Gift of Music, for instance, he does those readings and has done some of the D church history readings as well. But all his work is UG.

I probably didn't need to mention all of that, further confusing you. :p

I went to a TOG workshop at my hs convention last year, and it was quite helpful.

As a GENERAL guideline:
1st-3rd: LG
4th-6th: UG
7th-9th: D
10th-12th: R

Now, that said, she said that the main difference between LG and UG is that UG reads independently. So you would want to make sure an UG student can do the reading. Another thing that I found helpful was that she said that the readiness for D typically coincides with the onset of puberty. Something about connections in the brain, maturation, etc.

We are doing TOG. My Ker is basically tagging along, but enjoys the LG lit. My 2nd grader (just turned 8) is doing UG for lit, but reading the LG to my Ker. As far as our spines, I mix it up and do LG/UG.

It looks like I am right on track then. :D I had already decided that I wouldn't start my son in full D until 7th and all RH until 10th grade. Glad to know I am in the general 'ballpark.' ;)
