My son is finishing up a few of the Apologia Chemistry labs that he did not do as he was working his way through the book. I noticed he was not using the lab supplies and asked him why.

"What lab supplies?"

"You know...all the stuff in the big science box on the porch."

"Does it have test tubes?"

"Of course!!! What have you been using so far?" (I saw him doing the labs and I read his lab papers, but I never looked over his shoulder to see how he did all his experiments.)

"Just jars and stuff from the kitchen. You mean the micro kit he refers to all the time--we have that?"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, 'DO WE HAVE THAT'! GOOD GRIEF, CHILD! I'VE PURCHASED EVERY LAB KIT, MICROSCOPE, AND EVERY PIECE OF SCIENCE EQUIPMENT YOU MIGHT EVER WANT TO USE SINCE YOU WERE 5 YEARS OLD! WHAT HAPPENED TO ASKING IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW?"

Breath deeply. Smile. Move on to something else...

Ah, Jean--

It is nice to know that I am not alone. . . .

(That thudding noise you hear is me gently thunking my head against a wall, in sync with your sighs.)

So very nice to know I'm not alone. Or were you just posting the conversation between me and my son? :001_smile:

 So, Jean, I'm guessing you'll be putting a box of *unused, like new* science equipment on the "For Sale" board pretty soon... :tongue_smilie:

I have one more child to do that program. We will see if he uses it or not...

Ah.....reminds me of the comments from my own ds....

Mom: "Did you finish the on-line research assignment for History?

Son: "What assignment? Huh? You never told me anything about an assignment...." genuine perplexed look on kid's face.

Mom: "You know, the one on the syllabus I gave you"

Son: "Syllabus? What syllabus?"

Mom: "The paper from the beginning of the semester....you know the one I spent HOURS making....." Head banging on wall begins......

and so it goes at times around here.

Group sympathy hugs :grouphug::banghead::grouphug:

:lol: No fair eavesdropping at my school room door and then posting it for all the world to read. How rude!

At least he can get it all out of his system with you, so he doesn't have to be one of those dumb kids at college that drive the professors batty! :D

You: "What have you been using so far?"
Him: "Just jars and stuff from the kitchen."

Next question: Does Draino residue affect the shelf life of home-canned pickles and jelly? "No, Mom, I washed them all really well...."

My ds (even after being specifically warned) poured out some chemical concoction in my brand-new stainless-steel kitchen sink. I only found this out after the fact, when I noticed a strange discoloration and asked him if he knew what might have happened. ARRGH. :banghead:

Is that what they're doing? If I could guarantee that, it might help my recurring nightmares of him saying to the professor "What's a syllabus?" And the professor lamenting how ill prepared homeschoolers are. But my son is getting all the disorganization out of his system. All his profs. will be amazed at his organization.Right?!

This all sounds so familiar.

Today I asked dd how her review for the National Latin Exam was going. Her Latin teacher had a website that shows them exactly what to review. I told her about it, bookmarked on the computer, gave her the syllabus and asked her to start studying for it 3 weeks ago.

She said "I don't know where the review info. is, so I haven't done that yet."

Oh yes.....we have had very careful discussions about our sink as well!!! I was the major contractor and hammer swinger for my kitchen redo a couple summer's ago. My son KNOWS he is toast if he messes up my sinks or countertops. !!! It won't be me doing this :banghead: at that point.

...not getting a stainless steel kitchen sink. Kitchen sinks in MY house need to be impervious. That is all.
