The student book with the green cover. I just got one that I ordered from Rainbow Resource and it doesn't have a real binding. You can see the glue on the binding - it's not covered with the book cover. Now it makes it lie open very flat but it doesn't seem like it's supposed to be this way. It's not like there are holes in the pages that would indicate it's made to take apart.

Is this normal or should I call Rainbow. It's extremely obvious so I'm kind of surprised they didn't notice if this isn't normal.

In fact, my friend came over and was flipping thru my math books just after I received them...she took the Reviews book, opened it, and ((crack!)) it snapped. She was very sorry and offered to buy me a new one, but really - if you can do that just opening it, imagine what your little student will do! LOL. We are now about 2/3rds thru the main workbook and it has actually survived intact, except that the cover fell off. I would prefer to tear pages out & have them 3-hole punched, but my kids prefer to work in their workbooks in one piece. But I'm sure if you wanted to, you could take it to Staples or Office Max & have them remove the binding & 3-hole punch it (or spiral bind it). It has held up better than I originally expected.

Ok thanks. I've owned BJU workbooks before and they weren't like this. It must be because of the younger books. I've had the 4th grade one.

Good to hear it's held up better than you thought. Oh well. If it falls apart I'll just put it in a binder.

Both the K5 and the 1st grade we've had have had binding like that. We tear the pages out each day though and put them in binders so it wasn't a big deal for us.

The 2nd grade worktext is back to the regular binding.

Same here with our 1st stuff, the glued bindings make it very easy to tear out pages if you want to, and they should stay together reasonably well if you don't. You could add some extra hot glue to them to make it stronger, but think of it as a big tablet!

I prefer it greatly to the ones that are bound and perfed actually - we don't work from the workbooks so out they come. It's probably WAYYYY cheaper for them to do it this way too. Regular sized paper since no edge to chop off, no perf machine, cheaper binding..... yup, loads cheaper all the way around!

I liked the old style better and there were less errors in the text. Anyway, we tear out the pages and destroy after each lesson. Really, we wad them up and throw them for "baskets" and burn them in the fireplace later.
