Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for science for my ds5 & ds6 1st graders. So far, I've just been doing miscellaneous things with them for science, but I'd like to find a complete program with a little more structure. I have been looking at Apologia Zoology I & it looks great, but I wanted to see what else is out there that might be a better fit. I am looking for something with the following characteristics:

Young Earth/Creationist Perspective
Lots of hands on
Fits well with a mixed CM/Classical approach
not terribly expensive
minimal prep work.
They LOVE learning about science, especially hands on stuff. I am looking for something that will help to grow their interest.

Thank You!

What about Nature Study. Barb has weekly lessons using Handbook of Nature Study. The book is available as a pdf download or available for purchase.

We used BJU for science early on. It was good, no complaints. If I had to do it over again, I would look at Real Science for Kids.

We are using NOEO with my older son this year. My 1st grader was not quite ready for it, so with him, we are using Singapore Early Bird Start-up series Science. It is made to be done using the workbook as a guide, but living books as the core. This is what we plan to do - going more in depth with things my son is more interested in. Come 2nd grade, we will start NOEO Biology I.

I have been through a few of the Apologia books and really like them. It doesn't over simplify things, but you can make it simple. Also, A Pocket Full of Pinecones was a neat book, I couldn't use it by itself though.
