These are to help with those verbal situations which don't always come up in a program. (Caveat - I can't speak for all French programs and haven't seen French in Action for example)

But they might answer some of the types of questions asked by Nan and Jane....

Conversations pratiques de l'oral by C Martins pub Didier

Communication progressive du Francais by C.Miquel pub CLE International

with correction book ( Corriges pub CLE International)

difficultes expliquees du francais for English speakers - niveau avance (there is no lower level ;-) but it is more advanced in that it is mostly in French except for a few parts and the English questions that they want you to translate into French) by Vercollier, Bourlier pub CLE International - has a correction booklet too - Corriges with the above title (This is not a conversation book but the type that addresses differences and difficulties for us English speakers)

Below, an interesting book which actually seems to be meant for native speakers because there is not a word of English - to teach the differences between vocabulaire familier, populaire, et l'argot...
on one side of the page it has the "langage familier" and the other, the same conversation in "langage populaire". The first would not be appropriate for a young person to speak to an adult and would not be written (tho now I think it is in chats), but the "populaire" would not be what is spoken between kids on the street...in the second part of the book is the populaire et argot...

le francais que l'on parle by Y Cortez pub L'Harmattan

1001 Pitfalls in French 2nd ed by Grew & Olivier pub Barron's

I had another one which was good because it has a CD with it, but can't find it at the moment..

Hope this can help someone,
Joan
