Hi, for various reasons I have decided that R&S grade 6 math will not be enough to prepare dd for CD prealgebra. We have decided to use CD in 7th and that will be in the fall for us. We have been using Singapore as a supplement but are only halfway through 4A. I think in the time we have left we might get through 5A (maybe a little of 5B).

Will this be enough to prepare her for CD prealgebra? I really would love to look at the textbook but cannot find anyone in my area who uses it and the site doesn't have samples from what I saw.

Thanks for any advice!

I'm bumping this up again. We're in Singapore 5 and will be starting Singapore 6 in the fall. I've heard that, if going straight into Algebra I from Singapore 6 there is a great huge leap in concepts. That has made me think a pre-algebra program would be necessary to bridge the gap. No?

Yes, I've heard that too.
We're also in a bit of predicament. We know we want dd to take Prealgebra with CD but can't finish Singapore through 6 in time to do CD in 7th. I've looked at the rest of R&S 6, which is what we had been using until now, and compared it to Singapore and that combined with CWP really seemed to better prepare her for Prealgebra. They cover algebraic sentences better even in Singapore 4 and 5 then R&S6 (in fact R&S really doesn't) and they seem to cover geometry a litttle better. That combined with the CWP seems to be better preparation for CD.

But, I'm so new to this....and confused:lol:

My dd did Singapore 6 and did not need pre-Algebra. Sorry, I've cut back on my screen time, so didn't see this until today. She did Saxon up to 7/6. My 10 yo doesn't do Saxon, just MUS & Singapore. She's going to do Russian Math 6 this year, once she's done SM 6 (she's whipping through that, and finds it easier than 5, well, for the most part, but it does have some new things.) That will introduce her to negative numbers and strenthen her fraction work as she tends to forget her fraction rules if she takes a break from them (when to invert and multiply, even though she understood it in MUS, etc.) But she's also only 10, and not mature enough for Algebra as she doesn't have the maturity to tackle long problems and proofs yet.

I asked this question a while back. The advice I received, was that if you do Singapore through 6B, you could go straight into Algebra 1. No pre-algebra necessary. This agreed with what the moderator at the Singapore math board recommended.

Melinda,

Would you mind posting the link to the thread where you asked this? I would love to read it! Thanks!:)
