I am in need of a cursive workbook for my 8 yos. He really thrives with materials that are colorful and eye-appealing. I would like to find a workbook that also is thorough, and begins with the various strokes before moving into the letters. Any suggestions? Has anyone used Horizons handwriting? He really likes Horizons Math.

Have you looked at Handwriting without Tears? It is not very "colorful" but it does have little hints at the top that engages the child to loop like an airplane, go up like a helicopter and such... It helped my son tremendously when he started cursive a while ago. He got a compliment from a former high school teacher that taught at the coop. She was really impressed by how neat and legible his cursive writing was.

You might like Zaner-Bloser cursive books. The first cursive book is introduced at 2nd grade. My 1st grader is doing it, along with 1st grade printing. We like the graphics a lot- it was part of what sold me on the product. They have sample pages for every workbook on their site.

I used Horizons 2nd grade, which introduces cursive. If you are ok with Bible verses, I think you'd like it. THe pages are pretty. I bought it for the style of cursive, which is very close to what I was taught, so I can easily demonstrate it to dd.
