We got a Whirlpool front loader washer and dryer. One thing the store forgot to mention to us was we have to use a high energy efficient detergent. We have severe allergies to detergent so I have been getting the All Clear detergent. Please tell me there is a hypoallergenic detergent out there. HELP!

It's gentle and effective. It's not created specifically for those w/ allergies, but I used it on baby clothes and no problems. Tide has a Free and Clear...not sure if it comes in the HE type. Their other types do. Just look for the HE label on the bottle.

We have a HE front-loader too but I do not use the HE detergent. I do make sure that I use a liquid detergent and only fill the well 1/2 filled, at the very most 1/2 full. Our Sears Salesmen actually recommended that we do that and after doing some web research I decided to go with this approach too.

Tide has a scent-free, color-free HE laundry soap.

Thanks guys...I will look at Tide. I actually break out in hives if I do not use a Hypo-allergenic detergent. We need the scent free for dh. If I do not find any then I will just use the All Clear and fill the well at 1/2 or less.
Thanks guys!!

Why is this? We have a front loader too and I'm curious why you don't use HE detergent.
TIA!

I use All Free and Clear HE detergent in my washer. Lots of brands have a hypoallergenic version for HE.

I have heard homemade laundry recipes are excellent for front loaders. Here is the one I use in my top loader:
2C Washing Soda
2C Borax
1C Baking soda
4 bars of soap grated (I use my food processor)
Mix and use 1-2 Tbl for each wash. Lasts a long time! For unscented just use an unscented soap. Maybe check the health food store.

In my area HE costs a bit more per ounce then the regular stuff AND if I used HE I'd have to use twice as much as the regular stuff. So, by not using the HE my detergent lasts twice as long since I use less than half the amount of HE. Just a matter of economics. I have never had a suds problem by filling the cup less then half full with the regular detergent.

FWIW, I am still using my regular (non-HE) Tide Free in my FL and I use FAAARRRR less than 1/2 the well. I only use about a tablespoon, if that. Our clothes have been coming out clean. Have you looked at other allergy-safe options:
Allen's Naturally (http://www.allensnaturally.com/) or
Country Save (http://countrysave.com/)
The Allen's works great for us, as well. I haven't tried the Country Save, but people who use it really love it. They are probably a bit pricier than mainstream brands though.

I have a front loader and I love it. I use regular detergent - dh purchased some Purex free and clear most recently. If I'm buying, I try to buy something more natural. However, I use a tablespoon or 2. I don't come anywhere close to filling the well. I haven't had any success using a powdered detergent in my fl.

We have a Kenmore front loader and I've always used All Free & Clear (or whatever it's called) in it with no problem.

all of Amway's detergents may safely be used in front-loading machines. In addition to the "regular" SA8, there is also a Sensitive formula. It's the only detergent I can use; poor dh breaks out if I use anything else.

Like Beth said, we use the Tide Free HE detergent. There are very few detergents that don't break me out in tiny hives but I can use the Tide Free.

You can get All Free & Clear HE liquid detergent. I buy it at Meijer - costs the same as regular All Free & Clear.
