My rising 8th grader can complete both the Spelling Workout series-book H and Vocabulary from the Classical Roots-Book E next year. She will also be completing Henle 1 and R&S 8. She reads at an advanced level and feels both of these curriculums(SWO & VCFCR) are unnecessary for her. Her spelling is not great, but as she is writing more now, it is improving(spell check helps also). Her vocabulary is already advanced. She scores very high in the language arts section of her CAT test at the end of each year. I think we are language arts top heavy and would like to let go of some of the more unnecessary work go so that we can focus more time and energy on science, math, and writing. Thank you for your advice. Angela

I'd ditch the spelling and maybe the VCFCR, and perhaps start her on SAT roots--there are a number of programs that take little time. She'll get about 50% of the English language (root-wise) from Latin, so you may want to supplement with other language roots.

Do you have any book suggestions for SAT roots??

Here's (http://www.vocabulary-lesson-plans.com/sat-vocabulary.html) a website that has common SAT words and uses roots to "get there", and
here (http://www.enotes.com/sat-prep/roots) is a useful list of roots.
