When would be the best time do order my caterpillars for our butterfly habitat?

It's still frigid here in southeastern, PA. Snowing today and over the weekend. When should I purchase the caterpillars to do this?

The one we had (can't remember the brand but it was round with lots of paper inserts to look very foresty) said the caterpillars could be ordered at any time of the year. I think we ordered ours in the summer. They had two types and it just depended on what season the order is placed as to which they send.

Most companies will let you place your order anytime, but they will not ship them until the season is right for them. Anne Marie

We order ours in April so that we can let the butterflies out a few days after they hatch to be "free." You can keep the butterflies for awhile, but frankly they don't do as well confined indoors.
