I had planned to put together something on my own using the If You Were There series, but I'm just not feeling up to putting in the effort to plan it. I've been delaying starting the 4yr history cycle until my youngest is in 1st, so dc can start together. This year I've been doing world geography with dd while she's in 1st and I want to do one year of American history for her next year. It doesn't particularly have to be appropriate for K. Ds will just follow along a bit. SL's Amer. hist. is geared for older dc, especially the one-year combined course. WP does it in 2 years. Is there anything else out there along the line of SL and WP that does Amer. hist. in one year for younger elementary?

I haven't done it, but I was researching My Father's World recently. It's hard to find, but on their actual sample for Adventures in My Father's World (advertised for 2nd & 3rd graders) it states:
Adventures in My Father’s World is an optional year that follows My Father’s World First Grade. It is designed for second or third graders, but five- and six-year-olds may join in many of the activities.
So if you're looking for something for your older child and just want to have the younger sit in, maybe that's an option.
I'm sure someone who's tried it will chime in. ;)

MFW Adventures is a fun, one-year overview of key people, places and events in American history, the 50 states, and patriotic songs and symbols. For Bible you study the names and characteristics of Jesus, and then science (using Usborne books) goes along with the names of Jesus (i.e., bread recipes and activities, a discussion of the purpose of Communion the weeks you cover Jesus as the "Bread of Life").

We started the year with Adventures in My Father's World. My oldest are 3rd and 2nd grade, it just wasn't enough for them. I was always adding info. I think it would work wonderfully for your dc ages.
