I'm now hsing dd #3 of 4 and you'd think I'd have it all figured out by now, but nooooo. The older 2 used RS math and it went well. I tried RS A with dd6 and it brought howls of protest. This girl loves workbooks so I thought I'd try Abeka for first grade, its colorful and fun, and easy for me to teach.
Maybe I'm spoiled after using RS with her older sisters, but even though Abeka is going fairly well I'm not totally happy with it. I feel like her math fact retention is getting slower as we progress through the book, and I find I'm skipping a fair amount of "busy work" on the pages since it's designed for a classroom situation.
So, I think I'd like to try CLE or Singapore. Never used CLE but showed sample pages to dd and she liked it. But I'm drawn to trying Singapore too, I used it for all of 2 weeks with older sister years ago, not a good fit. I read all the rave reviews about Singapore and want give it a shot, but then again CLE has been getting lots of great reviews on here lately too. I don't want to keep curriculum hopping for math though, so I'd like this pick to stick for awhile. For those of you who have tried both, are they equally easy to teach? Did any of you out there switch after Abeka 1, and any advice to share?
