View Full Version : EG1 - What is your routine for extra practice & review (esp. with declensions)?

We are enjoying EG1 this year, but I find that we have take a break every so often to allow time for extra review. For example, we are breaking this week between lessons 17 & 18 to spend time cementing the declensions learned to date (esp. now that the 1st declension F has been added).

Besides the daily work in the workbook (.1 on Monday, etc.), I try to go through all the memory verses to date on Mondays and all the vocabulary flashcards to date twice during the week. I need to have a concrete plan on reviewing declensions covered. Is chanting them enough? How often? It seems like they should be written, but when we're writing one other than the standard examples, I'm not confident about where to put the accents. One other thing, should our declension review go over the endings only, example words only (man, gift, truth), or should we be practicing declining other nouns?

I would love for Open Texture to offer an extra practice workbook or loose pages (maybe with the permission to copy these within the family) for daily practice and review, in addition to the review lessons that are included every so often in the workbook.

So, if you're using EG, what is your routine for reviewing vocabulary, declensions, verses, and conjugations? Is the review in the workbook enough for your family?

We've used all 3 volumes and the review in the workbook was enough. I wish there was a Latin curriculum that provided that built in review - they all seem to assume the teacher will just know to do that. I did informally quiz on the week's vocab and endings on Fridays.

Thanks, Carolyn. What ages were learning at your house? I agree that EG has more built in review in the workbook that the Latin I'm familiar with, but we seem to need more repetition.

You could go to Teknia (http://www.teknia.com/index.php?page=freestuff), download the free font and make your own worksheets.

Thanks, Karen. I think I have downloaded that font (or another one if not the same), but I haven't spent enough time with it to figure out how to do the accent and breathing marks correctly yet.

Do you do some extra oral (or written) review with your students?

P.S. I really like your signature quotation and have written it down and shared it with my dd. :)

Yes I do extra work. We are on EG3 and every week we review about 50 vocabulary words, 1 scripture verse, and all of our endings, either by chanting or writing. We write the forms on notebook paper. I also have them parse the words in their Greek to English translations when I think they need extra work. I made some parsing sheets and you can download them here (http://homepage.mac.com/rivendellpress/FileSharing20.html) if you like.

My daughter did Elementary Greek 1 and 2 in 6-7th grade and did volume 3 last summer for fun. She's now taking Greek through Scholars Online and loves it. Alas, she hates Latin.
