I like the threaded view. It helps me see the overall pattern of the discussion, and quickly find new responses.

I use "Hybrid Mode". The screen is split and on the top I can see who posted in the thread (titles or first sentences). At least I feel I can make sense of some of it.

I like the hybrid mode because, at a glance, it most closely resembles the old board format and I can still scan down to any particular post in the thread I want to without changing screens necessarily. Additionally, when I want to check a particular board out I like to click on sort by thread start time and display threads to find out what *new* threads have posted since I was last there. These two things have gone a long way towards leaving me to feel that I'm not missing out on too much. :-P
