Do you need to buy the student notebooks or can you use plain paper?

When we used it, i did it both ways. I found it easier to have the student notebook because of them needing to check their work after their test, or quiz. I remember writing in all of those number in the spiral and getting confused. I think it's worth it to get the student notebook.

If you look in the back of the book, there are black-line masters of the pages that are in the student notebooks. I have bought the student notebooks 2 years in a row. We ran out of pages last year. This year we seem to be doing okay on the number pages, but the covers keep coming off. They were inexpensive and I didn't want to make copies.
Having said all that, yes, you can use notebook paper. Just fold the paper in half lengthwise. Use the left side of the paper to write the words as you call them out. If they get it wrong, they cross it out and write them on the right side (correctly) for their words to learn.

They are convenient but not necessary. If you don't mind using the ink then you can copy from the back of the book or like a PP suggested, fold a paper in half and do it that way. I like the convenience of having the student books.

The newest version has a CD (you can also order it online for about $5.
It has all of the masters and various other things.
The only page of it I ever really print anymore is the 10-step study sheet - I prefer to use notebook paper for her tests, sentences and copying the rule and words.
