My dd's will be 7th and 4th. I would like something they both could use together. If I dont find that - I want something geared toward my 7th grader.

I know more about what I dont want than what I want. I dont want a curriculum that is very "techinical" with an abundance of history, translations and the like. This is all fine and we will do more "indepth" studies toward hs.

What I want is a study that will encourage dc in their study and enjoyment of the Bible. One that will help them develop good characher and the ability to make wise choices. Something less like a curriculum and more like a study. Kind of like the difference between a diet and a lifestyle of healthy eating. One is a crash course and hte other a pattern of learning. Perhaps something more along the line of a topical study or devotional.....

I looked at BJU but I think that might be too much of what I dont want to do next year. The sample pages online were filled with Roman culture, tradition, Roman law, etc. That is just not the direction I want to go. We have done first of the Pearables but I am not ready for the Hope Chest one. That seems to be more about getting ready for marriage.

What else should I look at??

We have just started Lamb and Quill and I love it. We all study the same passage, but the activities and questions are tailored to the different ages of my children. You can view some samples on their website. http://www.lampquill.com/cms (http://www.lampquill.com/cms)

We really like the Bible Study Guide For All Ages. I get the workbooks for them, the beginner for my 1st and 2nd grader and the Intermediate for my 4th grader. We all read the same chapter and then do the workbook pages. I like that we can just do the study, or we can add the scripture memorization, etc. as well.

The studies are very inductive, and very thorough.

Here is the site:

I'm a big fan of the Discover 4 Yourself series by Precept ministries. It's inductive, so they're going straight to God's Word. The books are intended for 3rd-6th grade, and are written a little younger than that, but the content is definitely challenging for any age, especially if the child doesn't have a lot of firsthand experience with reading the Bible. Precept has coordinated these studies with their adult studies too, so your 7th grader could use a 40-minute Study or even a Precept Upon Precept study if she needed something more advanced.

We use explorer's bible study online. It's free, not colorful, but its very doable and we like it. We've also used Grapvine studies, stickfiguring through the bible, which are fun.

Try finding a Community Bible Study in your area that has a homeschool program! It's great because everyone studies the same thing! (And you get refreshed being around other women!)

Blessings,

If you have not used it before, I think that the 5th or 6th grade curriculum would be a good fit for your girls.

It has them flipping all over the Bible looking things up, and focusses on Biblical knowledge, applications, prayer, and optional memorization.

It is written for use in LCMS schools, which use it as a classroom course 4-5days per week, so there is a lot of information there.

I would suggest buying a workbook for each of your girls, and either a workbook or (better) a TE for yourself. The TE's are pricey, though.

Mom2ABCD has a contact in the company who told her how to order a standalone TE without the teachers' kit and get a homeschooling discount--I think of 20%. If you decide to go this way, I suggest that you page her or call the CPH 800 number and ask for the homeschooling curriculum person and keep trying until you find her.

The website is lousy, but the materials are truly extraordinary.
