what module are you on currently?

I'm just wondering. Also, are you using the Donna Young schedule? How realistic is it?

Thanks so much.

We started in middle of September. We are on module 10. Now I felt like we went way too fast. We did spend 3 weeks on two of the modules. I never used Donna's schedule nor have I seen it. I will go look at it and see. I made up my own schedule. I can email it to you if you wish to see it.

ETA: Ok I went to see the schedule. It is for ed. 1 but did read the revision notes for the Ed. 2. It does seem reasonable however 50 mins a day is NOT reasonable at all. We spend about 1 1/2 a day for 3 days a week then 50 mins a day on the other 2 days. I also required notetaking in the form of a learner journal, Chapter Summary write ups as well as the OYO (which we do together), and the Study guide. On top of all this the 2nd week I do a lot of tutoring and prepping son up for the test in form of a study sheet I prepared for him and we go over that together. I believe I require more than Donna did with her children.

My dc just finished Module 9 today. We started the week of August 25 and are set to finish by the first week in May. I use a modified Donna Young schedule I got several years ago that requires 3 days per week and covers one module every 2 weeks.

HTH,
Lisa

ETA: I'd be happy to send you a copy of the schedule we are using. It's for the 2nd edition.

My dd started the last week of August, and is on module 11. She takes it at co-op, where they spend two weeks per module. She studied three modules over the 6-week Thanksgiving/Christmas break in order to be finished with the book by the time co-op ends in April.

I use the Sonlight schedule. It is a 36-week schedule, so some modules are given three weeks instead of two. Not sure how great retention is long-term, but ds has been in the upper 80s to mid 90s on tests.

One thing I would have done differently would be to do a previous module review once a month. Taking 1 week out of each month to do a review of all the previous modules done.

Yes this does mean a longer Biology course from August to mid-June. However I think it would be worth it if you are planning on your student taking the AP or the CLEP exam.

On the opposite end of the scale here.

Last year we only managed to get through 10 modules during our 36 week school year, and have managed to get through another 4-1/2 modules in 18 weeks of school this year. Partly due to emphasizing other subjects and really de-emphasizing science right now, but also due to not liking Apologia Biology specifically.
