We made one in the fall and this is the recipe we followed:

1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of salt
3 T of water
1 T of vegetable oil

It may seem dry but be careful not to add too much water. If you put it in the fridge it will become moist.

You can divide your dough and add food colouring as needed.

Hope this helps,

Rebecca

p.s. Mount your map on cardboard and wrap in plastic before applying the dough.

I'm project-challenged, but I'll try it.

Thanks,

Karen, you will make out great! I did the measuring and my 4.5 year old did the rest. You can always use the left over dough to make other projects. My daughter made a little turtle, lizard and some beads. I baked them in the oven for about 15 minutes. The dough on the map you don't have to bake... it will harden over time. If you are making other items I would bake them.

I'm not sure where I saw this link (http://www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com/2008/08/step-by-step-to-making-salt-dough-map.html) posted, but dd followed her instructions and her salt map came out great. You can see it on my blog (link below) if you are interested. Just scroll down a bit.
