Lexia's S.O.S. is a software program designed to remediate reading skills through the eighth-grade level, but with activities designed for students ages 9 and older. Activities provide practice in everything from basic phonological awareness to advanced word-attack skills. The first three levels work on word-attack and strategies using context to help build automatic word recognition and understanding; includes practice with one- and two-syllable words, sentences, and paragraphs. The next level focuses on multi-syllable words, and the fifth level works on word-attack strategies to build on understanding of Anglo-Saxon prefixes and suffixes, recognition of Latin prefixes and suffixes, division of words into prefix, root and suffix, advanced decoding and comprehension skills (practice with 2- to 4-syllable words containing special accent patterns), vocabulary and word recognition and practice with common Greek combining forms.
