I just discovered SWB's book "The History of the Ancient World" and I am DELIGHTED with it! It is so readable and interesting. I will be assigning it to my 14ds, who needed some history to beef up his Omnibus I course.

I started feeling a little sad that this will be our "last" time through the 4-year history cycle. But then I realized that I don't have to stop the cycle when ds graduates. I can keep reading history and literature this way FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! For that matter, my son can as well, if he chooses.

What a great new revelation (for me).

And if you haven't read "The History of the Ancient World" - I highly recommend it!

Cindy - I still have one 4 year cycle left before I'm out of homeschooling, but I'm hoping to afterwards to do exactly that - read SWB's book and some of the other great books (or reread my favourites), possibly with some sort of reading group, since the one time I tried reading a short story with a few other people here, I learned tons more than I would have reading it by myself. I'm betting that my long-suffering husband would be willing to read some stuff aloud with me, even.

I like the idea of reading with others. This journey could continue for a long time.... :) Looking forward to it!
