is it just the same things done twice? I can't quite figure it out. I don't feel the need to go over the exact things two times, but if GWG is adding more things like practicing plurals, punctuation, dictionary skills, etc. than WT 1 covers, I would add it. Thanks for your help!

Here are links to compare them. I combined GWG4 with WT1 this year, and GWG definitely covered grammar on a more in depth level. I haven't used GWG3, but looking at the scope for it, it looks like the topics it does cover are covered more in depth than WT1 does. I hope this helps!

I am using GWG 4 and WT1 this year as well. I am sure (well I know), that some things are duplicated. We just look at it this way... Any (language arts/grammar) that is repeated in WT1 is extra practice.

It is funny that sometimes my ds says... "I already know this stuff." And then we review it in WT1 and sometimes he makes errors. It just helps him to look at the information in different angles. In WT, you are looking for grammar in stories, not just in a sentence as you would with GWG. And neither of them take to long that I fill it is extra busy work.

I agree with this. Even though the grammar in WT is lighter than and a duplication of what you see in GWG, it makes a world of difference seeing the grammar applied in actual writing as opposed to made up sentences that are designed to illustrate a point. It's for this reason that I think they are a good combination.
