SL Users - Do you sell your old cores or hang onto them?

I've got cores PK, K and 1 and I can't decide whether to sell them or keep them. I think the books are great and I've been holding on to them partly because of sentimental reasons and partly because I think maybe my kids will read them again.

I like the idea that we have lots of quality literature in the house and I don't have to rely on the library for the kids to have good books to read. So far, though, they aren't reading books in the old cores because they are so busy reading the books in our current core. I wonder if that will change as they get older?

On the other hand, I could really use the money from selling these cores to buy materials for next year and I am running out of bookshelf space.

What do you do?

So far I sell the IG's, maths, and beginning readers but keep most of other readers, read-alouds, and any of the history I could see us using for reference. My son loves to look through the Usborne style books so I keep most of those. But I will say that when I'm looking to buy used Sonlight things I will pay way more for a complete or almost complete core! Inidividual books really aren't worth near as much. My kids do argue over who gets to take the readers with them when they move out. Probably about one third of them that they really couldn't imagine me selling.

I've kept a handful of the non-fiction books over the years that represent topics or authors that would hard to find in a library, but I've always sold my cores as soon as we finish and often sell individual books as we finish if I'm organized. I don't have the space and $ to hang onto things :001_smile:.

We move alot so I sell almost the entire core. I do let my son choose a favorite book or two to keep. This year, Core 4, is the first where we've liked every single book thus far and won't be selling the books...but I have no use for the IG, so that'll be sold when we're finished.

before parting w/ the SL books. We own cores pre-K - 4. My older 2 kids are talking about which books are theirs to take when they leave our home :). One is even saving up money from chores to buy his own copy of his favorites (a list of 25 or so!).

So... I'd get rid of other curriculum first... writing programs, foreign language tapes.... before parting with the SL books.

my children will re-read the Usborne books and won't let me get rid of them.They tend to ignore the readers and read-alouds once they've read them once or twice.I've bought Cores for my older dd and re-use parts of them with my younger.Once we finish with any books that I know we just didn't like or outgrow, I donate them to various libraries for their book sales.

Thanks for sharing what you do with your books. I have a really hard time parting with mine, so I think I will try to hold onto them if I have other funds to buy our new curriculum. I do sell the instructor guides and I may go through and pull out the few books that I know we won't use again to sell, but I suspect it really won't be worth my efforts to sell them individually like that.

Sell them? Are you serious? I could never part with all those precious books that my children and I have shared. Plus, I pass them around to friends who need the cores. I love being able to help others that way! I have 2 high schoolers and a second grader, so eventually he will use them.

I currently have SL k, 1, 2, 3/4, 5, 6, 7, 100, 200.

if I needed the money and the space (which I always do!). Plus, you will get a lot more money back from it if it is sold as a set. Angela
